GLASSJAW book anniversary shows

It has somehow been 20 years (20 YEARS!) since the release of Glassjaw’s debut proper, ‘Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence’. And while the band haven’t always embraced the album’s lasting legacy, they will be performing it in full at some US shows in May. Current dates below. Here’s hoping for a UK date or three.

Listen to MODERN COLOR

I’m not breaking any news here. Californian quartet Modern Color have been around for about five years now and have garnered attention for both their unique post-hardcore and their DIY approach to making it- from creating their own artwork to booking their own tours. Portuguese Bend 7" by Modern Color The release of ‘Empty Rooms’ today though, feels like an […]

Listen to PERSONALITY CULT

The best punk rock records are less than half an hour long. Personality Cult know this. The North Carolina outfit- members of Paint Fumes, Last Year’s Men, Sweet Talk and more- rattled through their 2018 debut at reckless speed. It left a mark though, infectious velocity for fans of The Marked Men, The Hives, and The Ramones. S/T by Personality […]

Listen to FOOL’S GHOST

It’s not a great name, no getting around that. But the first forays from this Kentucky-based duo are excellent. You might expect aggression and relentless intensity from a former member of Breather Resist and Young Widows but Nick Thieneman and partner Amber have combined to create dark ambience, melancholy rock and thick funereal dirges. Their debut album, ‘Dark Woven Light’ […]

Listen to LAKES

Lakes might have chosen an unremarkable yet oft-used moniker but it’s pretty much the only foot the Watford six-piece have put wrong since forming in 2017. Their debut full-length, each track named after a lake, natch, is polished emo for fans of TTNG, Owen, and Into It, Over It. Glockenspiel!

Listen to KOTA KOTA

One-man studio-based post-rock passion-projects tend to power-surge my love-buzz. Kota Kota, the chosen moniker of Leeds-based artist Michael Holmes, is no exception. His debut album is a bass-heavy, propulsively-paced many-textured journey for fans of late Maybeshewill, early 65daysofstatic, and dreams of flying.

Listen to JOYERO

Even if you’re not familiar with Andy Stack’s name, there’s a chance you’ll know his work. He has spent the last decade as one half of indie-folk duo Wye Oak, toured with members of The National, performed with Lambchop and Shearwater and more, and composed music for film and television. Now though, he has struck out on his own as […]

Listen to OUT OF BODY

The 1990s are well and truly back. And while this is terrible news for, well, pretty much everything, a thin sliver of hope can be found in modern bands taking inspiration from that decade’s now-classic post-hardcore sounds. Austin, Texas outfit Out of Body aren’t the only ones doing so but they stand out- especially on new EP, ‘Son Sun’- by […]
