Listen to BROKEN HEAD

As a die hard, lifelong fan of the compact disc, it breaks my heart that cassettes, not CDs, are the alternative retro format of choice for new bands these days.

But I can forgive Massachusetts duo Broken Head for choosing to release their debut EP, ‘Sungazer’, on tape. Their fuzzy riffs and swirling melodies will sound perfectly at home slowly spinning around on thin black plastic. This is sunny summer’s evening slow-burn punk, emo-tinged shoegazing alt-rock.

While inspired by the likes of Catherine Wheel and Swervedriver (who almost certainly released their first albums on cassette too), the music of Rob Hooper and Alessio Tranchell is also recommended for fans of contemporary outfits like Narrow Head and Nothing.
